You have a right to place a “security freeze” on your consumer report, which will prohibit a consumer reporting agency from releasing any information in your consumer file without your express authorization.
The security freeze is designed to prevent credit, loans, and services from being approved in your name without your consent. You should be aware that taking advantage of this right may delay or prevent timely approval from any user of your consumer report that you wish to do business with. The third party will receive a message indicating that you have blocked your information.
Please be advised that security freeze requirements do not apply to pre-screening inquiries made by creditors who may want to offer pre-approved credit or demand deposit account information service companies. A demand deposit information service company is one that issues reports regarding account closures due to fraud, substantial overdrafts, ATM abuse, or similar negative information regarding a consumer, to financial institutions for use only in reviewing a consumer request for a demand deposit account. For this reason, the information contained in your consumer file at ChexSystems may continue to be provided under certain circumstances. Security freeze requests submitted to Chex Systems, Inc. will be applied only to your ChexSystems consumer report. If you wish to restrict access to your credit report at the major credit bureaus or other consumer reporting agencies, you must contact them directly.
All consumers who reside in the United States, including Puerto Rico, Guam and Virgin Islands, have the right to place a security freeze on their file. If you are a resident of a state listed in the Notice of Rights section below, you have additional rights you should be aware of. If you are a current resident of New Mexico, you may have a right to submit a Declaration of Removal. Please click the appropriate link for your state to read your notice of rights. Chex Systems, Inc. abides by each state’s Security Freeze regulations. At this time, Chex Systems, Inc. does not charge a fee for placing or lifting a security freeze, however, we reserve the right to apply fees as allowed by each state. If you choose to place a security freeze on your file, to assist you in managing access to your data, you will receive a unique personal identification number (PIN) by mail. The PIN will be required to perform specific actions with regard to your security freeze such as applying a temporary lift, removing, or changing personal identifying information (for example address, Social Security number, etc.). If you lose the PIN you may request a new one in writing. Please include your full name, current address, and Social Security number with your request. Should you wish to temporarily lift or permanently remove your security freeze, you may submit your security freeze lift request via our website or you may submit your request by mail or fax. You may also contact Consumer Relations by telephone at 800.887.7652. Telephone requests will be processed between the hours of 5:00a.m. and 11:30p.m. Central Time.
